So tht u wont repeat!!

After ages i'm blogging again. Not because i forgot abt it but because i became so busy with my post engg life :-P

Nw cmg to the point, this blog might b informative to some ppl. Recently i happened to format my system completely. After knowing the reason, i felt so :-P ing.

Let me give u a brief intro abt my system storage unit. My internal harddisk is partitioned into 2 drives. First, C drive with 24gb capacity and second, S drive with 440gb. Now u might be questioning me wat happened to the remaining 30gb if it happened to be a 500gb hard disk? The answer is, "u r genius!!" i installed Ubuntu in it that can't be detected in windows. Eventhough i have huge storage space, i was left with 1 gb free space in C and 10gb free space in S.

"Fine, wat happened nxt??"- i had to install a software, which was of least priority to me, which occupies only 500mb in S bt requires 2 gb of free space in C for installation. After so many unsuccessful tries to create 2gb of free space in C, i thot of uninstalling Ubuntu and merge that 30gb in C. By googling, i got to know that we cant merge any space into C drive as it is active drive. Well, one thing tht stroke me was 'formatting C drive' - tht was the stupid decision tht i ever took.

Meanwhile, I deleted Ubuntu and got 30gb unpartitioned space. Now i happily formatted my C drive only to discover tht the two spaces i.e, C's and Ubuntu's unpartitioned space are not represented as a common unpartition space of 54gb(ubuntu changes the drive tupe). All my efforts are in vain. Yet, i dint lose hope and wanted to put my system back as it was previously and try some 3rd party softwares to do the merging part. Something really went wrong in the process and my S drive was not visible/accessable. So i had to format my system completely. :-(

The lucky part was, i could backup my files :-) Nw it was all a fresh start for me with my system. Had to rebuild everything!!

So, points to remember:
1. uninstalling Ubuntu is not complete until u merge the free space allocated to it into some other drive. If u neglect this step, u either have to forget abt tht free space tht it existed or u hav to format evrything.
2. windows can sometimes act strange. Don't assume tht it happens as it happened evrytime. And its disk manager never helps!!
3. backup ur data frequently

Hope this blog helps u.. can post me with easy questions that i can answer. else, drop a mail to microsoft support :-P
